Sobre mim

ICSI is a laboratory procedure and a form of micromanipulation used during in vitro fertilization (IVF), which primarily involves injecting a single sperm directly into a mature egg using a glass needle called a micropipette. It is useful in cases where the male partner has:

  1. Oligospermia (A very low sperm count),
  2. Poor Morphology (Abnormally shaped sperm) or
  3. Poor Motility (Sperms don't move normally).

When such circumstances arise, this procedure is considered to be safe and effective for couples with male factor infertility and can also improve the chances of fertilization for couples with poor fertilization in a previous IVF cycle. The fertility rates can go up to 80% with the intervention of ICSI procedure because the pregnancy rate for each embryo transfer is at least as good as for conventional IVF treatment. While it's true that ICSI doesn't guarantee fertilization, it continues to be a beneficial choice for infertile couples, providing them with a hope for achieving a successful pregnancy and childbirth.

Challenges & Opportunities

Although ICSI treatment is very significantly used in major IVF clinics, the fact remains that there are very few professionals who are working in this vertical. Even if the IVF clinics have dedicated ICSI specialists, they either move on to upgrade their skills to a higher level or they choose to establish their own setups of ART clinics. Hence, a continuous need to employ ICSI professionals has been on a rise over the past few years.

Professionals in the field of ART often face hurdles in acquiring adequate skills for practicing ICSI procedures because of the limited availability of hands-on training opportunities. A lack of dedicated and authentic training centers and a high demand for medical professionals trained with these specialized techniques, can make finding appropriate training a challenge indeed.
